Have questions about the Prompts? You might be thinking, "Do you consider a selkie a human?" or "Does Gamora count as a 'character of color'?" We purposefully don't have a list of definitions to go with our prompts so that the prompts can remain to interpretation. People can be so creative in how they interpret things and we want to encourage that.

However, if you find yourself looking at a square and have no idea what it means/what to do with it, leave a comment and we can let you know the original intent behind that prompt.

I think those are probably meant to be the same, we've just included two versions of the prompt on our list. Sorry about that! Feel free to swap it out with a square of your choice, or if you want I can make you a new card.

I have a probably dumb question: What's the main difference between "Free Space" and "Wild Card"? I know that "Wild Card" means that I can choose any prompt from the prompt list, but does "Free Space" mean that I can record any podfic I want, or that I don't have to record a podfic and all and only need to match to the four other squares to get a bingo?

Edit: Also, does "New Kink" mean new to me, new to the characters, or either?

"Free Space" and "Wild Card" are quite similar, except that you don't need to choose a prompt for "Free Space", so yes, you can record any podfic you want.

"New Kink" can be interpreted as either of those! Whichever works for you.

I was wondering, what did you mean by "different source medium"? Text from a different website than usual, making a podfic of something that's not text, something that's not traditional fic, a fic based on a source material in a medium we're not used to, on two different things in different mediums, idk incorporating bits of audio from different sources?

Also, can I say a prompt inspired the cover of a pod and use that pod to fill it?

And would a baking video (of a fannish recipe) be somewhat close enough to a podfic to potentially fill a square?

1. All of those options are valid interpretations! Anything that qualified for Out of the Auditary definitely qualifies here. Multi-medium sources also definitely count as different source mediums.

2. Since this challenge covers all aspects of podfic production and cover art can be one of them, that seems perfectly fine.

3. Absolutely! Your fills don't need to be audio-only (and the multimedia prompt specifically encourages the opposite).

I have questions about some of these!
- NSFW prompts: do the podfics have to be NSFW? Arts & Crafts, for example, could easily be a SFW podfic.
- write and record your own story: would it be permissible to record an already-posted story, or would you have to write it for this bingo?
- how... would one go about Random Fic? Does AO3 have a way of picking out a fic at random from a certain pool of fic?

Not a mod, but for Random Fic, I think you could for instance say "I will record the 3rd fic on the 7th page of my search results".

And I had the same question re: NSFW prompts. Could we get punny and use "protection" in the form of a pop filter, even for a Gen fic?

So this is original fic in the sense of original fiction instead of fan fiction. If it's in the Original Work fandom on AO3, it counts.

i've gotten the prompt "freeform" and i was wondering if it's that the "no scenario" prompt has Specific Iterations or it's actually the "no scenario" prompt but copied weirdly?

Oh, yup, that should be the No Scenario prompt. Sorry about that!

I think freeform is very similar to not!podfic but a bit looser, more improvisational than not!podfic perhaps generally is. Though of course there's a great deal of variety with not!podfic, so that's probably not a great definition. The intent of the prompt is to leave the subject of your podfic more open, so whatever you would think of as freeform would count. Hope that makes sense!

Transforming an existing podfic means that rather than take a fic or some other text to transform into a podfic, you would take a podfic and transform it in some way - think of it like a remix, but for podfic. Hope that makes sense! For some examples of how this has been done, see the tag.

Podfic Polygons

I have a couple of questions about using our Podfic Polygon projects to check off squares:

1) Can we use any of the podfics produced by our polygon, as long as we're listed as a co-author? Even if we only did the editing, for instance?

2) How do we post it to DW? Do we have one person make the post and specify "squares A, B and C for podficcer X, square D for podficcer Y, squares E and F for podficcer Z"?

Do we have to make a new AO3 post and delete the old one? Or can we just insert the new file and make a note of it in the post?

However you want to handle posting it to AO3 is up to you, but you definitely don't have to delete your old post. You can have the original version and your repodded version posted separately or have them in the same post. As long as it's clear when you post here in the community which is the repod, it's fine.

This is an individual judgement thing I think, there are no hard and fast limits.

What does "read with breath" mean? Like breathing loudly? or with a Breathy voice? our sounding out of breath? or with breathing sound effect? I'm not sure...

All of those are valid interpretations of the prompt! The idea is just to use breath as part of your performance.

I have two questions:

(1) If I use Audacity to create an echo for part of a podfic, does it count for both "Echo Effect" and "Incorporate Verbal Effects", or just for "Echo Effect"?

(2) In part of a fic I'm podding, a character makes a trumpet sound with his mouth. If I replicate this, does it count for "Incorporate Verbal Effects", "Incorporate Sound Effects", or neither? My understanding is that me making a trumpet sound with my mouth to represent an actual trumpet would be "Incorporate Verbal Effects", but that's not exactly the case here.

1. If it's through Audacity it would be Incorporate Sound Effects, as well as Echo Effect.

2. Making the trumpet sound with your mouth would be Incorporate Verbal Effects, yes, so if you're doing it another way, say with a sound effect, then it would Incorporate Sound Effects.
